Once past the application form stage, employers may use several different methods to assess applicants. Apart from interviews, these might include


Larger graduate recruiters often combine these methods in a one-day assessment centre, in which you’ll meet and participate in tasks with other candidates. Assessment centres are expensive to run and time-consuming for all involved, so employers only invite candidates they’re interested in.

Be prepared!

  • Approach these sessions seriously.
  • Remember that you’ll be closely observed throughout the day
  • Assessors will be observing how well you get along with the other candidates
  • If you’re still at university, ask your careers service about practicing some or all of the above
